1993

It is with much sadness that I regret to inform you that our classmate, Debbie Finney Cecil, lost her battle with lung cancer on Sunday, March 3, after her daughter climbed in bed beside her mommy and told her it was okay to go be with the angels.

Debbie leaves behind several siblings, husband, Terry Cecil, son, Shawn Finney age 24 and daughter, Teira Cecil, age 11.

During the reunion we will have a box for cash donations so that we can purchase a savings bond for her daughter. Additionally, we will purchase a book for the library at Grandview Elementary and donate it in Debbie's memory. She loved Grandview with all of her heart. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Debbie Finney's children:

Tribute #1 by Barbara Landers

I have known Debbie for quite a while.  As long as I have known her she always had something encouraging and sweet to say to everyone and a wonderful smile.

I remember talking to her sitting in the halls of Stonewall Jackson, laughing and enjoying our days, planning our futures.  I loved her outlook, it was as bright and sunny as her smile.  I am going to miss her.

Tribute #2 by Terri Borsman Molz

Debbie Finney died today (March 3, 2002 about 4:00pm) She had been in the hospital about a week or so and at that time they had given her 24hours to live. She really suffered this past week.
Her 12 year old daughter climbed onto the bed and whispered that she could leave to be with the angles.
She was really looking forward to this reunion....I NEVER really thought she would die. It seems so unreal...Terri

Tribute #3 by Lisa Johnson-Nelsen

Thanks for being a good and close friend to everyone we will miss you dearly.
Debbie was my very close friend and next door neighbor. I knew Debbie for along time. I will miss her dearly, but she is in a better place with no pain.
Her son Shawn was little last I seen him. Please tell him Iam sorry. I never seen her daughter but if she is anything like her mother she will go far. I knew her mother and Lonnie and her sister Pam. Your prayers are with them.

Tribute #4 by Debbie Otey

As I looked through the pages of the 1976 Yearbook, I saw that smiling face of Debbie Finney. Debbie was really looking forward to our 25th reunion this summer. She may not be there physically but her spirit will be with us for sure.

Tribute #5 by Denise Burgess

When I think of Debbie I think about her laugh and the way she would turn her head slightly and flip her hair over her left shoulder. Weren't she and "Chucky" Walker together forever? or am I remembering that wrong. It's so hard to believe that so much time has passed and our friends are going through all that they are. I am so happy that Debbie had her kids who loved her so much and who brought so much joy to her life. I bet she was a great Mom!
