Deborah Otey

Obituary from Charleston Gazette-Mail:

Deborah Arlene Otey, was born April 5, 1959, and took her last breath on Earth and first breath in Heaven. Debbie would like you to know that her work here was completed on June 16, 2016. She got a promotion that she couldn't refuse for an assignment from which she won't be returning. This assignment comes with a reunion with her family and friends, from whom she has too long been removed. Her new boss has promised a free life-time residence. Her cane and walker are no longer needed where she is now.

She wants you to know that it is available to see her again if you so desire. Some of you are already signed up for that same assignment. Tickets were purchased many years ago. Details are in the Preflight Assistance Group document called, "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth", copies of that document are available everywhere. Debbie also left instructions for her son Jason, her other family and friends to celebrate her life here and be ready to see her again on a day and time yet to be announced.

Don't be sad she is gone, be excited for the day we will see her again.

She is survived by son, Jason Scott Otey; brother, Robert Scott Otey, wife, Mary Jo Otey; nephews, Curtis, Sean and his family; and dogs, Bobo and Willie.

She was preceded in death by William Van Otey and Dorothy Jane Otey.

She spent her life giving to others and helping others. She worked at UC and the DOE for a combined 20 plus years. She was like a second mom to many of Jason's friends in the Kanawha City area. Debbie was a BIG animal lover, and absolutely loved her dogs like they were her own children. In her perfect world, "No animal would ever have to need."

A self-proclaimed "West Side Girl", Debbie loved being from Charleston's West Side and loved her many memories and many friends from her beloved SJHS; where she graduated in the class of 1977, and spent 30 plus years on the SJHS reunion committee. Also, she loved her friends and memories from Marshall University. Debbie was a big believer in the Golden Rule, and lived her life accordingly. Many people were truly blessed to call her a genuine and loyal friend.

Celebration of Debbie's life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Bollinger Funeral Home, 420 Lee Street West, Charleston, WV with Pastor Ron McClung of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Teays Valley, officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

There will be a bereavement dinner held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2219 22nd Street, Nitro, WV 25143 later that afternoon. The family would like to send a very special thanks to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, especially Karen Hart, Joe and Joan Savilla.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier St., Charleston, WV 25312.
