Tribute #1 by Barbara Landers :

I didn't have Marty Painter in any classes but I talked to him sometimes in the hall between classes. His personality was golden. He always seemed to have a smile on his face. It is sad he had to leave us so soon.

Tribute #2 by Paul Lewis

I remember in the 7th grade... we actually had an open campus and therefore we could leave the campus for lunch. Several times a week Larry McGlaughlin, Marty Painter, Joey Scarberry and I would literally run to the A&W Root Beer for Slush, burgers and dogs. You know they just don't make that root beer with the slush in it any more; we loved that! Larry was a gazelle and ran like the wind so Marty, Joey, and I would only run half way. Joe and I really enjoyed Marty; he was always upbeat and seemed to love life. By the time we got to A&W, Larry was nearly done eating and ready to run back to Lincoln. Still today, 30 years later, I smile when I remember Marty, Joey, and our weekly treks to Central Avenue. I guess we started early in our quest for beer and dogs. God bless Marty

Tribute #3 by Connie Martin Lategano

I remember Marty from an Art Class we had together in Lincoln. He was a really nice guy. It was easy to have a crush on him back then he was someone a lot of us liked. He left Lincoln I don't know why... he might have moved or something but he can back when we were juniors or seniors in High School. He was more quiet then before and he was a really party person.

Tribute #4 by Steve Wolfe

I grew up with Marty on Pacific Street, along with Willard Taylor. When I turned 8 in April 1967 I had the only birthday party of my youth, and my mother took these great photos of the "gang", which included Marty and his sister, Willard, Hank Mace, Richard and Mary Walker, and Bill Haid. I still have those photos. One of my most enduring memories of Marty however was Saturday morning, July 16 1969, when we watched the liftoff of Apollo 11 together at Marty's house because he had the only color TV on the street! Marty's dad, Okey, still lives in the same house on Pacific Street, according to my mother.

Tribute #5 by Becki Pierce Bays

I will always remember Marty and the gang, Larry McLaughlin, Willard Taylor, Dody Clay, Larry Atkins and of course the Pierce Girls.

I often wonder what life would be like if Marty was still with us, I am sure it would be a life full of fun times. Marty will be, and is, missed very much!!
